New Teachers Lunch

The Women's Chamber of Commerce hosts a New Teachers luncheon a few days before school starts. I've been representing the city as one of the speakers ever since Mayor Larry Stobbs asked me to fill in for him. This year, I sponsored a table and requested that the new Benton teachers be seated with me. I will do this again even though I had first day dreams for several days later.

Portrait Painting

This three day workshop was intense! I was ready to quit about half-way through the first day because I was in waaaaay over my skill level.

Most of the participants were professionals with degrees in art. However, they were all kind and supportive. So, mid-way through the second day, I was feeling inspired by the others in the class rather than intimidated.

I used my oil paints from Junior College days...at least 50 years ago. I only had to buy one new tube of white and some new brushes.

Guess I'll have to do some more oil painting now that I know the old tubes are still good. And I'll have some fresh canvases after I Gesso over the ones I used at this workshop.

Fourth of July

Fourth of July means bbq and fireworks on sister Dot and Barney's patio. Ray and Jeri joined us for dinner and others dropped by later including neighbor Carolyn, our niece Lori, her husband Bill, and Bills's two daughters and their friend. Towards dusk, Barney loaded the golf cart with canvas folding chairs and set us up with prime seating on the fairway. Joining us on the grass were other neighbors from the 'Hood.
After the Country Club's fireworks display, Dot and I finished our wine on the patio, watching other displays. (Dot had to duck and run when the folks next door set off their big fireworks. She didn't want any debris falling on her head.) 'Hoodie Barb drove by in her golf cart around 10 pm on her way home and stopped to watch the fireworks with us until the sky was clear....around 11:30.
I was invited back for leftovers the next day.
Hmmmmm....Noticed in the July 2014 recreation picture of June 1955 that we are wearing similar outfits. Pure accident but it does seem to reflect our individual tastes even nearly 50 years later.
